The days are warm but the nights are cold. Last night in Nanango was -5°C according to a local, inside our van was 0.5°C. The diesel had turn to gel and the diesel heater had stopped working. We turned on a couple of hot plates and boiled the kettle for a coffee and things quickly warmed up. The sun was shining and the frost was soon melted. 750ml of kerosene in the diesel heater tank and we won’t have that problem again. (Up to 10% kerosene in diesel winterises diesel and stops it turning waxy.)
We headed north towards Yeppoon (booked in for 15th July) and we had a leisurely drive through Kingaroy, Wooroolin, Wondai, Murgon and onto Goomeri where we had lunch.
All of these small towns had free camps worthy of an overnight stop. After lunch we passed another good looking free camp at Ban Ban Springs as we made our way to Biggenden.
Biggenden has a disused railway station that is being utilised as a Low cost camp for fully self contained vans. For $5.00 we could stay the night. The only facilities were toilets which are outside the fence of the railway yard. I am unsure if it is a work in progress or if it is a little neglected but this stop over wasn’t as neat and tidy as all of the ones we had passed on our travels today. They did have an awesome honesty box though.
They also had a several Barbeque shelters along the road next to the railway yard with plenty of landscaped gardens so they may be hope for the camping area.
