We left Tocumwal around 9.30am and headed up the Newell Highway to Jerilderie for a quick stop to stretch the legs. Back on the road we headed for Lockhart. What a great little town for a visit, even to spend a night here. Lockhart is dubbed the “Verandah Town”, almost all of the main street has a verandah over the footpath for about 3 blocks.
To add to the towns appeal, Lockhart has the Farm Art Trail, a unique collection of sculptures. We found a large percentage of them, either by driving around town or walking the main street.
On the road out of town towards Wagga Wagga, we had a quick stop at The Pastoral Shadows of Brookong. A short walking track with lots of Australiana sculptures.

Back on the road we passed a large mob of cattle being driven down the long paddock. The drovers had a light truck and an old tri axle caravan. We wondered how long they have been on the road and how much further they were travelling.
We arrived at Wilkes Park campground on the banks of the Murrumbidgee River. We wre expecting heavy rain so we found some high ground, even if we were close to the main road. A little road noise will more than offset getting stuck with a 3500kg 5th wheeler in tow.
