Heading for Melbourne

Oxley Recreation Park

Oxley Recreation Park

Leaving Forbes, we had Melbourne in our sites, and camped the night at the Oxley Recreation Reserve, an area setup for horses but they welcome campers for $10.00 per night. There were cattle in the main camping ground, so we gained permission to camp in small yard around the clubrooms of the pony club.

Ashley Gardens - Melbourne

Ashley Gardens – Melbourne

We were booked into Ashley Gardens Caravan Park for 2 nights so we could visit the Queen Victoria Market and have a look around the city before heading home on Saturday night.

There are several large drive through sites for large rigs.

Our 2013 trip has been quickly added to the blog. Updates and photos will be added soon.

Heading to Forbes

Leaving Tamworth, heading for Forbes we spent a night at the Eumungerie Recreation Reserve, a large area with some powered sites just 2km off the Newell Hwy so there was no road noise. Wheogo Park is a fabulous free camp within 5mins from city centre and we spent 2 nights here.

Meadow Glen Rest Area and Mitchell Caravan Park, Bourke

Leaving Broken Hill we passed through Wilcannia, which is looking very worse for wear. We did have a quick drive around looking for fuel. It would have been nice to have a good look about but didn’t feel comfortable so just headed towards Cobar.

Meadow Glen Rest Area 25%

We stopped for the night at Meadow Glen Rest Area, approxiamately 60km west of Cobar. It was a small area just off the road sheltered amongst the trees. There was no noticeable road noise from the traffic and plenty of room without being on top of other campers.

A quick look around Cobar and onto Bourke and the Mitchell Caravan Park

Broken Hill and Silverton

On the way to Broken Hill from Mildura, we stopped off to see the Junction of the Murray and Darling rivers at Wentworth.

We chose St. Pats Racecourse Campground on the outskirts of Broken Hill as we camp unpowered as much as possible. So far, so good as our solar panels are having no trouble keeping the batteries charged.

Check out the Sulphide St. Railway Historical Museum, a fantastic museum to keep you occupied for quite a while.

Off to Silverton to check out the sites. The Mad Max Museum is a must, but the Silverton Gaol Museum is better. We didn’t stop at the local pub and now regret the fact that we missed one of the towns historical icons.
